Jackie Ahlers Named AVCA Honorable Mention All-America

Dec. 12, 2007

Official AVCA Release in PDF Format

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Senior outside hitter Jackie Ahlers (Stony Point, N.Y.) has earned American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Honorable Mention All-America honors, the organization announced on Wednesday. Ahlers was recently named to the AVCA All-Northeast Region team, making her eligible for All-America honors.

The 2007 America East Player of the Year, Ahlers played in every game of every match as she lead the Seawolves to 24 wins and the conference's regular season crown. She finished first in the conference with 5.08 kills per game and 5.61 points per game, and ended the regular season with the conference's second-best hitting percentage of .339. The 5.08 kills per game also ranked her 14th in the nation.

The three-time AVCA All-Northeast Region selection and two-time honorable mention All-America had 620 kills on the season which ranks as the third highest single-season total in program history and the 5.08 kills per game is second behind Alarmis Miranda's 5.56 in 1999.

Ahlers is just the third Stony Brook volleyball player to earn All-American honors. Stasia Nikas and Janna Kuhner were named first-team All-America in 1992 with Nikas winning National Co-Player of the Year honors as the Seawolves went 37-4 and advance to the NCAA semifinals. Nikas also earned second-team All-America honors in 1991 when SBU went 36-7 and advance to the NCAA Elite Eight.
