Women's Volleyball Wraps Up Regular Seasn With 3-0 Victory Over UMBC
Nov. 11, 2007
Baltimore, M.D.) - Senior Morgan Sweany (Mission Viejo, Calif.) recorded a double-double (10 kills, 12 digs) and junior Noelle Bay (Selden, N.Y.) had a match-high 16 digs as the Stony Brook women's volleyball wrapped up a spectacular regular season with its 11th straight victory, a 3-1 (30-25, 30-23, 30-19) win over UMBC on Sunday evening. The top-seeded Seawolves (23-7, 11-1) will now host the four-team America East Tournament November 17-18, opening up against the fourth-seeded Binghamton Bearcats on Saturday afternoon. Sweany finished the season with a team-high 18 double-doubles for the Seawolves who won 11 straight conference games after dropping their opener to Albany. The Retrievers took an early, 3-1 lead in the first game, but saw that lead dissipate after a 5-0 run by Stony Brook that gave the Seawolves the 11-9 advantage. The Retrievers trailed for the rest of the game, as Stony Brook rolled to the 30-25 victory. Game two saw the Seawolves take control early, as they opened a 4-1 lead on the Retrievers, never trailing the entire set as they earned the eventual 30-23 victory. The Retrievers took an early, 3-1 lead once again in the third and final game, but a 5-0 Seawolf run put Stony Brook up 6-4 as the Seawolves coasted to their third and final set win of the night.
