May 8, 2008

Cambridge, Mass. - A total of four Stony Brook University student-athletes from its men's and women's tennis teams were honored by the America East Conference today when the league announced its All-Academic teams for tennis. Two men and two women were named to the teams which are selected based on the student-athlete's academic and athletic accomplishments.

Sophomore Ilan Shvartz (Haifa, Israel) and freshman Ivan Rummel (Budapest, Hungary) were named from the men's tennis team. A first team All-America East player, Shvartz turned in a 12-7 overall mark for the Seawolves. A second team all-conference pick, Rummel posted a 14-9 overall record.

Stony Brook's women's tennis team also had two players named, senior Sandy Wijeratne (Melbourne, Australia) and sophomore Paola Rodolfi (Asuncion, Paraguay). Wijeratne established school career records for singles and doubles wins and led the team with a 19-6 singles record this season. Rodolfi went 15-11 as the Seawolves No. 1 player and teamed with Wijeratne to earn first team all-conference honors at No. 1 doubles.
