Baseball Headed To Arizona State For NCAA Tournament
May 26, 2008 Complete NCAA Tournament Bracket Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook's baseball team is headed to Arizona State in Tempe, Ariz. this weekend to compete in the NCAA Division I Baseball Championship. The Seawolves will face off against host Arizona State in the opening round of the double-elimination regional tournament on Friday, May 30th at 10 p.m. EST. Also joining the Seawolves in Tempe will be Oklahoma and Vanderbilt. Stony Brook (34-24) secured an automatic bid into the field of 64 by winning its second America East Championship in five years over the weekend. The Seawolves secured the America East title with a 6-0 victory over Binghamton on Saturday behind junior right-hander Mike Errigo (Bayside, N.Y.) who hurled a five-hitter. Errigo's performance completed a run of 19.0 straight scoreless innings hurled by Seawolves pitching. Junior Steven Mazzurco (Selden, N.Y.) was named the Tournament's Most Outstanding Player as he hit .455 with four runs scored, one RBI, and two doubles in the three tournament games, The Sun Devils, who won the Pac-10 Championship for the second consecutive year, finished the regular season 45-11, including a 35-3 mark at Winkles Field-Packard Stadium at Brock Ballpark. The tournament's No 3.overall seed, Arizona State will host regionals for the second straight season and the third time in the past four years. One of the top offensive teams in the country, ASU was third in nation in runs per game (9.8) and fifth in batting average (.339).
